AMBIKA PRASAD RESEARCH FOUNDATION, MANIPUR Urbanization is spreading the green cover at alarming rate specifically in the developing countries like India (Imam and Banerjee, 2016). As per census 1901, 11.4% of total population of India is residing in urban areas which crossed 31% in 2011 census (Kavita and Gayathri, 2017). The most urbanized states of the country are Maharashtra followed by Tamil Nadu and Kerala as per census 2001 (Kadi and Nelavigi, 2015). These reflects the development and economy of the country but also leads to hazardous issues including water and air pollution, biodiversity loss and hence disbalance the environment (Kelly and Fussell, 2015). At the present scenario, most part of the country is facing the negative impacts of urbanization, including the green patch of the country, the North-Eastern region of India (Yadav and Sharma, 2013).
